How Attic Fans Can Protect Your Home All Winter Long

Per the University of Minnesota Extension, “An ice dam is a ridge of ice that forms at the edge of a roof and prevents melting snow (water) from draining off the roof. The water that backs up behind the dam can leak into a home and cause damage to walls, ceilings, insulation, and other areas”

This is a common problem during winter for many homes throughout the United States. As winter arrives and snow sits on top of houses, unknown damage is caused, and thousands of dollars are wasted.

This occurs because when it is freezing outside, we have a tendency to make it an oven inside. This unbalanced temperature allows for the snow on top of the roof to melt but remained trapped behind a wall, or dam, of ice.

With QuietCool attic fans, you can avoid this headache quite easily. Per Green Home Ohio, “An attic fan can keep a home’s attic and roofing from becoming warm enough to allow radiated heat to create these ice melts and dams.”

Attic fans push the air inside of an attic back out into the world. So during winter, you can run your attic fan throughout the entire season. The system will likely not run very often but when it does, it will be taking all of the much too hot air from inside your home and expelling it out of the attic before it hits your roof.

QuietCool attic fans also run on very minimal electricity. QuietCool’s Smart Attic Fan, when running on its lowest setting as it likely will during the winter, uses just 15 watts! To put that number into perspective, that is about the same as some LED light bulbs on the market.

Not only are you saving your roof from potentially life-altering damage but are using a system that costs very little and will likely pay for itself in just a few years. During the winter it is often difficult to see how an attic fan, which is often marketed as a summer luxury, can be so beneficial. However, the snow that surrounds you should give you a hint. A QuietCool attic fan does much more than just save you hundreds off your a/c bill, it could save you thousands on roof damage.

Don’t wait around for your roof to accumulate mold, mildew, and irreparable damage. Get a QuietCool attic fan and save your home.
