One important aspect of the QuietCool whole house fan that many people are not familiar with are the barometric-pressurized gravity dampers.
Damper Box Installation
The QuietCool damper box is not seen by the homeowner. It is installed from inside the attic between the joists. There is no joist cutting involved with installing the damper box, as they all fit 16” on center. All damper boxes feature removable flanges just in case the joists are exactly 16” on center. Installation times are greatly reduced and much simpler, allowing even experienced, handy do-it-yourselfers to install the fan themselves.
Damper Box Performance
Once the damper box is in place, the way it works is so beautifully simple; when the system is turned on the force of the air blows the “gravity” damper doors open, allowing air to flow freely into the attic. Once the system shuts off, gravity kicks in and the damper doors close creating an R-5 value. That’s it! There is no separate motor controlling the damper doors, consuming more energy. What does this mean for the homeowner? There is no additional wiring for the damper box further simplifying installs, no unnecessary energy usage helping keep energy costs down, and our damper box contains no moving parts allowing for a longer lasting life cycle!
Every aspect of the QuietCool whole house fan serves a purpose, and our damper box is no different. Designed for simpler installs, less energy consumption, and longer life the damper box flies under the radar unseen by homeowners, but is a true star in the QuietCool system.
Remember, if it doesn’t say QuietCool, it’s just another fan!
