System Requirements And Wireless Tips

You are here:
< All Topics

System Requirements:

  • Wi-Fi Router with 2.4 Ghz Wi-Fi network
  • WPA, WPA2, or WEP security
  • iOS 8.0 or greater
  • Android 4.0.3 or greater

Compatibility

  • Compatible with most Wi-Fi routers that have a 2.4 Ghz network
  • Not compatible with Wi-Fi Range Extenders, 5 Ghz networks, or dual/tri-band routers that combine the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz networks together (see Wireless Tips for more info)
  • Not compatible with the following network types:
    • Enterprise routers with enterprise security settings
    • Café style networks (Wi-Fi networks with browser-based guest sign in)
    • Cellular hotspot networks
    • Networks with Chinese characters in the SSID (network name)
  • If you have multiple Wi-Fi networks at home, make sure you connect your Wi-Fi hubs to the network you most use on your devices. Both your devices and your Wi-Fi hub must be on the same network in order for you to be able to control the fan.

Wireless Tips

  • Make sure the router is located centrally in the home so all your devices can reach the Wi-Fi signal as well as the Wi-Fi hubs on the fans. Interference can be caused by walls, floors, furniture, etc. so be sure to test connectivity before installation.
  • Ensure your router firmware is up-to-date.
  • Make sure your router is configured to use either WEP, WPA, WPA2, or WPA+WPA2 security options
  • Dual/Tri-band Routers:
    • Many Dual or Tri-band routers have a setting that will combine both the 2.4 Ghz and the two 5 Ghz networks into one network. This is incompatible with the Wi-Fi hub as the hub can not dictate which network it lands on.
    • To get around this issue, turn-off this feature in the router’s Wi-Fi settings.
    • See this video for more info
  • Wi-Fi Range Extenders/Boosters
    • The Wi-Fi Hub needs to be connected directly to the main Wi-Fi router rather than a range extender/booster. The hub will not work consistently if it is connected through a range extender/booster.
  • Make sure the channel selection on the router is set to “Automatic” to ensure there is no Wi-Fi interference
